This bull shit new layout is terrible. Your ads are covering "top stories" and take up a MASSIVE amount of the page, and it makes loading the editor/pages much longer.
I'm glad you're continuing the "screw your users" attitude. I'm about done with gawker for good if this shit keeps up.
Also, you're new editor sucks.

I'm not crazy about it either, but Opponaut BJ has written a great script that can alter the layout and make it much more readable. As for the new editor, I like it so far, though I prefer the old image insertion tool. As with all things, it just takes a bit of getting used to. Hang in there, and remember that we come to Oppo for the content, not the layout.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The image tool is my biggest problem with it. Also, just like we benchmark cars from their stock state, I benchmark a website from its stock state without altered layouts.
While it's nice he's done that, I personally don't particularly want to go about altering things.
And yes, I like Oppo for the content and users. Unfortunately, they like to inhibit the ease of use with content and litter the place with broken html and bad design (see: ads all over the damn place).
I'll likely eventually have to just find a new place to lurk and discuss.

Chrome + AdBlock = Happy

While yes, that is nice... Chrome is far from my preferred browser, as it doesn't seem compatible with a lot of things and under performs in a lot of aspects.

I run ad block software, too, so I see no ads whatsoever.
I agree with your statement about benchmarking from the stock state. However, don't we also upgrade our purely functional cars to make them better? Isn't altering the layout with an after market product part of a similar analogy?
Best of luck. I hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm not calling it quits just yet... I just don't like the intention and general lack of thought on their part.

Incompatible with what? I thought the same at the beginning so I kept firefox and IE shortcuts handy, but they're long gone. It's a bit of a memory hog, but I wouldn't say it underperforms...it's generally just a shootout which is better between it and firefox. Incidentally, both have adblock extensions readily available...I'm still amazed to find people that don't use this.

sometimes I have it disabled and forget to put it on.
Honestly, I can't remember what it was incompatible with since I've give up on it a long time ago. I did have a lot of issues with it freezing up and crashing, not loading things... unsupported by some websites. etc.
